The Association

About the MCCBA

The MCCBA was established in 1991 with the aim of promoting chancery and commercial work in the Midlands, providing its members with continuing education and a forum for debate and dialogue, including between the Bar and the Bench.

In its early pioneering days the Association played a leading role, under the chairmanship of Mr Justice Mitting (then John Mitting QC), in the establishment and success of the Birmingham Mercantile Court, one of the first of its kind; and later in the establishment of the specialist Chancery and TCC courts in the Birmingham District Registry.

The notion of specialist chancery and commercial work being undertaken in the regions was in those days novel. The Association played a leading role in changing that outdated assumption.

The Association has gone from strength to strength. Its members have a wide range of individual specialisms, appearing in the specialist courts in the Midlands and elsewhere.

Many members are also qualified arbitrators and mediators.
